Ullswater Utd 2 v AFC Carlisle 2

HT (0-1)

A great start to life in division 2. A tough test nevertheless against a strong, physical team who put themselves about from the off. It was like tennis for most of the game. We started with a mixed team due to a few dropping out the squad for various reasons resulting in only 12 players available for the game which is not a good start and a hope not a sign of things to come.

We went 1-0 up on the 44th minute with a corner whipped in which Andy (Salmon) Bates scored a bullet header from three yards out (pictured below).

We then went 2-1 up in the 65th minute after a set play from the left resulted in a Sam James skillfully flicked shot saved before it was pounced on and slotted into an open goal.

We conceded a second goal after a flicked throw in was not picked up and was slotted home from 7 yards out.

It was end to end and very physical all game so tough on everyone! Well done to the young boys who stepped up and put in a decent shift for the team. Most important thing we talked about was not losing the game and we are on the board with a point so something to build on for next Saturday v Eden Thistle at the Sheepmount.
